Just because you’re trying to choose more nourishing snacks this year doesn’t mean you have to give up on that savory crunch you love!
Veggie chips have the health advantage over potato chips because they can be dried rather than fried, creating a naturally delicious wholesome snack with many more vitamins and nutrients than fried potato chips.
Whether or not veggie chips are healthier than potato chips depends on the vegetable in question. Potatoes are typically not as nutrient-rich compared to beets, parsnip and carrots, all three of which make for nourishing and delicious veggie chips.
Air drying over a long time at a low temperature is the best way to preserve all that natural goodness whilst creating the delicious crunch we all love.
The key to finding veggie chips that are an improvement on standard fried potato chips is to look at the ingredients. If they are fried, oiled and salted the same way then you’re not really doing yourself any favors.
Flavor-wise, the flavor from the vegetable being used carries through and often salt or a herb or spice is added on top for an additional flavor lift. A good system is to go for chips made from vegetables you enjoy. Don’t like carrots? You probably won’t like carrot chips!
The bottom line is, switching fried potato chips for dried veggie chips, you’re giving your body more vitamins and minerals without all the added oils and salt, but still getting that delicious savory crunch.
These snacks are as simple as it gets - dehydrated beet and carrot slices with nothing added. The dehydration process preserves all the natural flavors and gives them a satisfying crunch, with no added sugar, salt or oil.
Because they are so pure they keep their natural nutrients. Our beet chips are high in manganese which helps your body release energy, and potassium which helps regulate blood pressure. Our carrot chips are high in vitamin K which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, and vitamin C which helps support the immune system. All in all we think they beat a packet of potato chips hands down!
Try dipping these chips in hummus as a mid-afternoon snack. Of course, you can eat them straight from the bag too or if you want to get experimental, spread them with our taste expert Grace’s whipped goats cheese with ground almonds and thyme.
