are you embracing hygge?

September 18 2017 by Sophie

We're celebrating staying in this September! As the weather gets colder and our schedules get busier, let's do as the Danish do and introduce a little more hygge into our routines.

how can hygge benefit your health?

Hygge is more than the material, it’s a state of mind too.

Taking joy in the little things, living in the moment, appreciating the people around you, making time for yourself, these are all hygge. And in our society of multitasking, status updates and full schedules, a little more hygge is just what the doctor ordered.

Stress is often a factor in damaged or sub-optimal health. Relaxation lowers stress levels - strengthening the immune system, raising the metabolism, and reducing the likelihood of developing depression.

Making time for yourself - doing yoga, listening to music, having a nap – anything that slows your heart rate and clears your mind will go a long way to helping you de-stress.

How to bring more hygge into your life

Here are some super simple hacks to bring some hygge wherever you are.

  1. Fix the lighting. Turn on some fairy lights, light some candles, or even go out to watch the sunset.
  2. Switch off the tech. Read a book, cook a meal, or have some actual real life face time with friends. And make sure you turn off those loud notifications!
  3. Get comfortable. You’re not dressing to impress, you’re dressing to stress less! That means comfy comfy comfy.
  4. Get cosy. I’m talking blankets, hot tea or cocoa, fluffy socks, a knitted hat, the works.
  5. If you or your partner could grow a beard, that would be ideal.
