Our nutritionist Jess usually recommend eating dark chocolate over other chocolates because dark chocolate contains naturally occurring antioxidants like flavanols and epicatechins. Some studies have even shown these antioxidants can help decrease the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Source.
Not only does dark chocolate have natural antioxidants but it’s also a good source of tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid important to the production of serotonin which is the neurotransmitter that helps regulate appetite, sleep patterns and mood which is why you might actually feel happier after a few bites of your favorite chocolate treats! Did you know cocoa is deliciously rich in minerals? Minerals like iron, copper and manganese are especially high in cocoa.
